ThunderBolts blow away Sliders to ear series sweep
SLIPPERY ROCK— The Slippery Rock Sliders surrendered a season-high 19 hits in suffering a 14-3 loss to Windy City Wednesday afternoon at Critchfield Park.
The ThunderBolts (47-18) swept the three-game series.
Windy City scored six times in the second inning against Sliders ace left-hander Zac Cline. Two errors contributed to the damage, but Cline (5-5) allowed six hits in the frame and was touched up for 10 earned runs on 13 hits in 5Z\c innings
Slippery Rock (15-49) has lost 37 of its past 44 games.
The Sliders trailed 14-0 in the eighth inning before Bryan Vickers ruined Billy Phillips' shutout bid with a pinch-hit two-run homer, his third of the season.
Phillips pitched eight innings, struck out nine and scattered six hits.
Vickers, a catcher-first baseman, pitched the final inning for the Sliders.
Outfielder John Armenio and shortstop Robbie Hine collected their first hits as members of the Sliders. Hine had two singles and garnered his first RBI.
Every starting position player in Windy City's lineup had at least one hit. Mike Coles doubled, singled and had four RBIwhile J.P. Lowen had two doubles and three RBI to pace the Thunderbolts.
The Sliders travel to Rockford (Ill.) for a three-game series beginning tonight. They return home to host the Washington Wild Things in a 6:05 p.m. doubleheader Sunday.
