Karns City student tests positive for COVID-19
School will still be in session Wednesday at the Karns City Area School District after another high school student tested positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent Eric Ritzert said the district was notified Tuesday of the most recent positive test. Oct. 2 was the last day the student was in the school. The district and Pennsylvania Department of Health have begun contact tracing and the school cleaning remains ongoing, he said.
Administrators updated the school board Tuesday night, but no board action was taken, Ritzert said.
The administration is working with the board and health department about a possible temporary closure of the high school, he said.
He also said the district is consulting with the Butler Health System and will work with it to formulate decisions regarding the operation of schools related to COVID-19 cases.
On Friday, the district announced it was notified that day that a high school student tested positive for the virus. The student was last in the building Sept. 24.
A Chicora Elementary School student tested positive on Sept. 16 and was expected to return to classes the following week along with classmates who came in contact with the student.
