ZELIENOPLE — Flags lined the entire length of Main Street as people set up their chairs in anticipation of the borough's annual Fourth of July parade.

The hot weather and blues skies resulted in a big turnout Monday morning as thousands watched as the Zelienople parade kick off with the singing of the national anthem with the presence of more than 100 American Legion and JROTC members.

One of the parade's more inspiring floats during the parade depicted the famous six U.S. Marine Flag Raisers at Iwo Jima, Japan.

The parade also honored the lives of three Zelienople Fire Fighters Elijah Lunsford, Sam Bucci and Trevor Barkley that were killed in January in a tragic accident.

One of the boys' restored Ford Mustang was driven in the parade by family and friends of the three men leading the processional of the Zelienople Volunteer Fire Department trucks.

Other area fire departments and their equipment took part in the parade including Adams Area, Callery, Cranberry Township and Evans City in Butler County, Marshall Township in Allegheny County and Franklin Township, Big Knob and New Sewickley Township in Beaver County.

Some of the other parade groups that made their annual appearance included the Resurrection Band, that has been playing for more than 30 years. It was led by 50-plus year-old drum major Betty Lambert.
