Montoya secures Cup win

Nextel Cup road races bring out the best and worst in some drivers. Don't tell that to Juan Pablo Montoya.

Starting from the 32nd position on the grid in the running of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at the Infineon Raceway, the man from Columbia charged through the pack, passing Jamie McMurray with less than six laps remaining in the race to pick the win for team owner Chip Ganassi.

The former open wheel driver showed the skill and patience needed to win a road race in only his 17th start in Nextel Cup racing.

Kevin Harvick finished second to Montoya after McMurray ran out of fuel on the last lap. Jeff Burton finished third followed by Clint Bowyer and Greg Biffle.

The point standings didn't change for the top five cars. Gordon still leads the pack after the 16th race of the season. Denny Hamlin is second, 271 points back. Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Jeff Burton round out the top five in the standings.

The Cup Series makes the long trek from California to Loudon, New Hampshire for the running of the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at the New Hampshire Speedway Sunday afternoon. Kyle Busch scored the win on the 1.058 mile oval in 2006.
