Kahne, Outlaws coming to town

Tuesday's WoO show to bring NASCAR driver

SARVER — The World of Outlaws won't be the only attraction at Lernerville Speedway Tuesday night.

ESPN2 will be there. So will NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne, who won his firstSprint car race at the Sarver track in 1999.

They will all be in attendance for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup, the most lucrative of the World of Outlaws Sprint tour stops. The winner gets $30,000.

Kahne will be the Grand Marshall for 16th annual event. Time trials begin at 6 p.m. with the feature set to begin at 8 p.m.

In 1999, Kahne won the Earl and Dave Bauman Memorial sprint car race on the All-Star Circuit of Champions. Since making the jump to NASCAR, he has won seven races and was the 2004 Rookie of the Year.

Kahne also owns a World of Outlaws sprint car team.

His driver is Joe Saldana, who finished second atan Outlaw event at Lernerville Speedway in May and finished sixth last season at the Silver Cup.

Saldana is second in the World of Outlaws point standings and has won nine events this season and holds the Lernerville Speedway track record of 12.334 seconds.

Last year's Silver Cup winner, Donny Schatz, has finished in the top 10 in 38 of the 42 events this season and is the points leader.

ESPN2 will air the race July 22 at noon.

The Silver Cup has had its share of drama over the years.

In 2002, Ed Lynch Jr. became the first local driver to win the event.

Aliquippa's TimShaffer won the event in 2005 after placing second behind Lynch in 2002.
