Sater

Richard Sater son of Richard and Dolores Sater of Butler, was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal March 23 for outstanding service during three years of assignment to the Directorate of Public Affairs for Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.An Air Force Reservist, Sater joined Pacific Air Forces as a public affairs officer in 2004. In addition to his regular duties, he completed a two-month tour of duty in support of Operation Unified Assistance, the 2005 humanitarian mission in the wake of the tsunami in Indonesia; and later that year, a six-month remote assignment to Alaska in support of a joint-service road-building project.In September 2006, he deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom, returning in January of this year. It was his third combat tour for the Global War on Terrorism.Sater earned his bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pittsburgh in 1983; his master's degree in creative writing from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., in 1989; and his doctorate in fine arts from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, in 2000.He recently completed 20 years of honorable service in the Air Force.———

Air Force Airman <B>Wesley Fichter </B>has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.He is the son of Cheryl Fichter of Butler.Fichter is a 2003 graduate of Knoch High School.———

Army Pfc. <B>Andrew Hay </B>has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.He is the son of Wayne Hay and Carol Kondratowicz, both of Saxonburg.Hay is a 2005 graduate of Knoch High School.
