Steven Michael Spiker, formerly of St. Petersburg, Clarion County, has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army.Spiker attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga., from February through May of this year and graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate.He will attend the Basic Officer Leadership Course II and the Basic Officer Leadership Course III before reporting to Fort Lewis, Wash., in the fall, where he will be attached to a field artillery unit.He is a 1998 graduate of A-C Valley High School and a 2002 graduate of Slippery Rock University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education.Spiker enlisted in the Army in December 2003 as an M1A1 Abrams tanker and deployed to Iraq in May 2005. Before his commissioning, he was a junior noncommissioned officer (E5).He has received the Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leak Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.He is married to the former Christina R. Wensel of Corsica, Jefferson County; and they are the parents of a son.——Air Force

Airman Bradley Mills has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.Mills is the son of Gary Mills of Butler and Susan Vanderburg of Concord, N.C.The airman is a 2005 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, N.C.——

Paul Linski III, son of Paul Linski and Cynthia McIntyre of Butler, entered the delayed entry program for the Air Force on Jan. 4.The 1998 graduate of Slippery Rock High School shipped to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, on May 22.——

Karl Hillwig, son of Jon Hillwig and Christine Cravener of East Brady, entered the delayed entry program for the Air Force on Dec. 18, 2006, and shipped to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, on May 22.Hillwig is a 2006 graduate of Karns City High School.——

Sgt. 1st Class, Timothy Dlutowski of Butler, currently serving at Fort Jackson, S.C., assisted the Army accessions command in setting up and coordinating the Memorial Day Coca-Cola 600 pre-race spectacular to celebrate the men and women of the U.S. military, at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord N.C.Dlutowski also got to meet U.S. Sen. John McCain, who was the honorary starter for the race.
