PITTSBURGH — Left-hander Javier Lopez agreed Friday to a $775,000, one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 32-year-old was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in 38 games last season at Triple-A Pawtucket after going 0-2 with a 9.26 ERA for Boston from the start of the year through May 9.

He is 11-7 with four saves and a 4.62 ERA over seven seasons in a major league career that began with Colorado and also included a stint with Arizona.

"Javier has proven to be a capable major league reliever who has the ability to attack both left- and right-handed hitters," general manager Neil Huntington said. "He will provide a solid option for manager John Russell in 2010."

Lopez can earn an additional $550,000 in performance bonuses based on games from 35 to 70.
