Butler Twp. Colt team falls in N.C. tourney

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Butler Township Gold's Colt League baseball tournament run ended Friday with a pair of losses in the Eastern Zone Championship.

Butler Township suffered losses of 8-3 to host Greensboro (N.C.) and 15-4 to Richmond (Va.) in the double-elimination competition.

The team was among the final three squads remaining in the tournament at the time of its elimination.

"This was quite a ride,"Butler Township manager John McLaughlin said. "We wound up among the top 24 teams in the world — not bad for an in-house team."

Mason McLaughlin tripled and Alek Bollinger had a pair of singles in the loss to Greensboro. Tony Campbell, David Schmidt and Vinnie Schmidt all added singles for the Gold squad.

Campbell doubled in the loss to Richmond while Cody Montgomery, C.J. Miller and Bollinger all singled.

Butler Township finished the season with an overall record of 23-4.

"I can't be disappointed with this,"McLaughlin said. "We fell two wins short of the Colt World Series. That's pretty darn good."
