Schuey's ace honors late father

FORDCITY— Travis Schuey always figured his late father was still with him.

He received some reassurance Saturday.

During the second annual Jim Schuey Memorial golf outing at Cabin Greens, Schuey, 19, of Worthington scored a double eagle and hole-in-one on the same shot.

He used a driver to ace the par four No. 9, 225-yard hole.

"It was a blind shot. There was a 15-foot gap between two trees, fairly far out there, you had to hit the ball through,"Schuey said. "I got it through there, but couldn't see it after that.

"There were a bunch of people around who watched it happen. They came running down the fairway, yelling it was in the hole. I didn't believe them."

Schuey has been golfing for five years and never had a hole-in-one or double eagle during that time.

"I know my dad was watching me play that day," he said. "He had to have something to do with that.

"Something like this happens, it makes you think ... If I needed some type of sign he was still with me, that was it for sure. And that's a great feeling."

The Schuey Memorial was a four-person best ball event. Schuey's quartet finished 7-under-par and in fourth place out of 18 teams.
