PENN TWP — The 14th annual West Penn Interclub Junior Tennis Championships take place Thursday at the Butler Country Club courts.

Participating teams include host Butler Country Club, the Butler Junior Tennis Association, Chapel Gate Swim Club in Fox Chapel, Forest Hills Swim Club in Edgewood, Club 4 Life in Monroeville and LakeVue Athletic Club in Valencia.

"I'm grateful that Butler Country Club has allowed us to host this event for the last 14 years," said tournament director and BCC tennis pro Whitney Snyder.

The event features the top male and female tennis players from each organization in both 12-and-under and 18-and-under divisions. The boys and girls team up for mixed doubles competition.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. and play begins at 10:30. In the event of rain, LakeVue's indoor tennis facility will host the tournament.

All of these organizations are members of the Western Pennsylvania Tennis League.

"This is like our league's all-star game," Snyder said. "The top players from each team will be here.

"I appreciate the dedication of all of these teams," Snyder added. "They're helping us bring the best junior tennis to Butler that we can."

Awards will be presented to a boy and a girl for sportsmanship, as well as extra effort.

The two division champions will receive awards, as will the overall team champion.

The Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford is the three-time defending champion of this tournament, but has not entered this year.
