A fugitive living in Butler waived extradition Monday back to his native Louisiana at a Butler County Court hearing.

Louisiana authorities say they plan to come to Butler County to fetch 32-year-old Clark J. Cook in connection with a parole warrant.

Cook has been held in Butler County Prison since Jan. 31, when Butler police arrested him after a call for a domestic dispute at his home on the 600 block of Center Avenue.

Once officers arrived they learned Cook was wanted on a warrant out of Louisiana. Police checked with officials at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in Saint Gabriel, La., who advised they planned to extradite him.

“They’ll come and pick him up,” Mark Lope, a Butler County assistant district attorney, told Judge William Shaffer at Monday’s hearing.

Cook’s attorney, public defender Maura Palumbi, advised her client of his legal options before he signed a waiver of extradition.

An official with the Louisiana Division of Probation and Parole told the Butler Eagle that Cook was on parole for aggravated battery and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling stemming from a case in 2010 in Livingston Parish.

No other details on the case were immediately available.

Cook, when asked, only had one question for Shaffer: how long do Louisiana authorities have to pick him up.

“They have a reasonable amount of time,” the judge told him.

Shaffer said that he would determine what was a “reasonable amount of time.”
