Ducks square series with overtime win

DETROIT — Scott Niedermayer enjoys going to the rink with his brother, Rob, and also having him around away from it to spend time with his three sons.

It’s an added bonus when they help the Anaheim Ducks win as they did Sunday night.

Scott Niedermayer scored at 14:17 of overtime — on an assist from his brother — to lift Anaheim to a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings and square the Western Conference finals at a game apiece.

“Teaming up for goals, that’s neat,” Scott Niedermayer said. “I didn’t really see it go in, actually,” he said. “I saw it hit the post.”

Rob Niedermayer set up his brother for a shot from the right circle that went through traffic and found an opening between Dominik Hasek and the post.

“This is a big thrill for me, for sure,” he said. “It’s certainly nice to come up with the win tonight, and just watching Scott score that winning goal was pretty special.”

Game 3 is Tuesday night in Anaheim.

As they did in Game 1, the Ducks controlled the puck and the play. Unlike Game 1, they came away Sunday with something to show for it.

“They’re really good at hanging onto the puck and cycling in the corners,” Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom said. “I think that’s how they get a lot of pressure in our own end.”

Anaheim outshot Detroit 33-27 — including a 7-2 edge in overtime.
