Toronto rookie burns Penguins

PITTSBURGH — Jiri Tlusty, playing his first NHL game, scored two goals 35 seconds apart during a four-goal Toronto flurry in the third period and the Maple Leafs shook off an early season slump to beat Pittsburgh 5-2 Thursday night and end the Penguins' three-game winning streak.

Alexander Steen scored Toronto's first goal and had two assists and Mats Sundin added two assists while being largely responsible for shifting the momentum the Maple Leafs' way after the Penguins kept a 1-0 lead for half the game.

Sidney Crosby scored his third goal, all against Toronto, and assisted on a goal by Sergei Gonchar that came during a two-man advantage in the third but the Penguins lost for the second time in six games.

The Maple Leafs, the league's worst defensive team so far this season, tied it at 1 midway through the second when Sundin, whose strong play at both ends created numerous scoring chances, helped set up Steen's second goal.
