Election winners picked Friday

Winners were chosen Friday by lottery for three borough council and other municipal races that ended in ties in the Nov. 3 election.

Butler County Bureau of Election workers drew numbers out of a bag for each name. The lowest number won the position.

For Seven Fields Borough Council, Democrat Dawn Servello won a four-year term. Servello and Republican Joseph A. Scalamogna both were tied for a seat with 198 votes each.

For Bruin Borough Council, Debora Easley was chosen for a four-year term, breaking a three-way tie. Easley, Josh Price and Kevin Smith were tied with one write-in vote each.

For Fairview Borough Council, Nichole Saylor was chosen for a four-year term, breaking a two-way tie with Jeff Shumaker.

The winners who won through write-in votes still must accept or reject the office before Dec. 4.

If they decline, the municipality’s supervisors or borough council have the authority to appoint a person to fill the vacancy, said Shari Brewer, election bureau director.

Appointed officials serve only a two-year term since the position would then appear on the ballot in the next municipal election.
