Pair battle again Swindell, Kinser face off at Lernerville
Sammy Swindell or Steve Kinser - who's it gonna be?
This weekend's World of Outlaw Sprint car races at Lernerville Speedway will carry more suspense than that, of course, but the two veteran drivers have dominated at the Sarver oval.
Swindell has won 15 career Outlaws features at Lernerville while Kinser has won 14. Both won features there last year, with Swindell grabbing the checkered flag July 20 and Kinser doing so May 25.
Time trials get under way at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday for the two-night Commonwealth Clash. Pure Stocks join the race card Friday while only Sprint cars will be on the track Saturday.
Friday's Sprint feature will be 25 laps with $5,000 going to the winner. Saturday's race will be 30 laps with $12,000 going to the winner.
Kinser won his 19th career Outlaws points title last year and is chasing his 20th crown this year. He leads in points with 2,630, good for a 126-point lead over runner-up Craig Dollansky, and has won six features thus far.
Donny Schatz is the only other driver with as many as three wins this year.
Kinser, who also has 12 Knoxville National Championships to his credit, has 519 career Outlaws feature triumphs. He will turn 51 on June 2.
Dollansky has only one win so far this year, but he has finished among the top five nine times. He finished fourth in points last year after returning from a serious back injury suffered in 2003.
Dollansky had 22 top-five finishes and set five track records last year.
Joey Saldana set Lernerville's Sprint car track record of 12.334 seconds in May 15, 2002. Saldana is currently eighth in points.
Friday night's race begins a Pennsylvania swing of six races in nine days for the Outlaws.
Two-day passes for this weekend's Commonwealth Clash cost $56 for adult reserved, $52 for general admission, $28 for student (ages 6-12) reserved and $26 for student general admission.
Reserved and general admission adult tickets for Friday's show are $30 and $28. Adult tickets for Saturday's show are $32 and $30.
