Weitzel

Martha Jane Gilliland Weitzel, 98, of Wake Forest, N.C., formerly of Butler, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at her home.

She was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Butler, the daughter of the late John Dunlap Wise and Sylvia (McCandless) Wise.

She was a member of Unionville Presbyterian Church and retired from American Hardware.

Surviving are her daughter, Diane (Charles) Hawkins, of Rolesville, N.C.; her son, Thomas Ralph Gilliland, of Thailand; her grandson, Brett (Hillary) Hawkins; her granddaughter, Kyla (Galen Paul Jr.) Hess; and her great-grandchildren, Lane Hawkins, Laurel Tripp Hawkins, Mary Stuart Hawkins, Griffin Hess and Makenna Hess. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Gilliland; her second husband, Elton Lamont Weitzel; her sisters, Laura Jean Brown, Thelma Marie Fleeger, Nancy Lutz and Hazel Endlish; and her brother, Jack Leland Wise.

WEITZEL — Friends of Martha Jane Gilliland Weitzel, who died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Unionville Presbyterian Church, 1114 Sunset Drive, Butler, with her pastor, Matt Kail, officiating.

Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.
