Mars volleyball’s Gabi Weidemann records 2,000th assist in sweep of Butler: Highlights & scores
Mars volleyball’s junior setter Gabi Weidemann reached some very rare air in Tuesday’s non-section sweep of Butler.
With 43 assists, she surpassed 2,000 for her varsity career and now has 2,018.
The Planets defeated the Golden Tornado by scores of 25-23, 25-12 and 25-16.
Reese Connelly (17 kills) and Alyssa Genis (14 kills) led the attack for Mars.
Raina Lewandowski posted 12 kills, 12 digs and three aces for Butler. Eva Stutz contributed 11 digs, Campbell Clouse and Emerson McGarrah combined for 17 assists.
Brookville 3, Karns City 0 — The host Gremlins lost by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-14.
Addison Fox had 16 assists and 13 digs in defeat and Mya Jones seven kills and a pair of blocks.
A-C Valley 3, Union 0 — The Falcons won this backyard rivalry by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-13.
Gianna Louise had 10 kills and Lexi Altman 18 assists for A-C Valley. Sarah Bashline added four aces and Ari Adams five kills.
For the Damsels, Kolstin Wetzel dropped eight kills, and Lilly Hayden had 27 digs.
Freeport 3, Highlands 0 — Caylee Zembrzuski dished out 35 assists, 10 of them going to Emily Boylan for kills in a 25-10, 25-7, 25-14 victory. Jamie Radvan and Lucy Majerski each had six kills, and Zembrzuski added another four.
Moniteau 3, Cranberry 0 — Emily Matz was at it again and the Berries paid the price. She tallied 15 kills and eight aces to pace the Warriors to the 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 win.
Sayge Brunst added nine kills, Charlotte Thompson five kills and Maddy Eury 26 assists.
Fort LeBoeuf 3, Slippery Rock 0 — Lyla Runtas had 25 digs for the Rockets (6-3), who bowed to the Bison by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-19.
Knoch’s Jacob Jones shot 73 to advance from the WPIAL Section 1-2A tournament at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club. He will compete in the first round of the WPIAL championship tournament, scheduled Tuesday at South Hills Country Club.
Three Freeport golfers also made it out. With the target score being 80, Gavin Tola (75), Jackson Kane (76) and Max Zigo (80) each made the cut.
Section 9-2A — North Catholic’s Chris Faber and Colin Campbell both survived Pittsburgh National Golf Club, carding a 75 and 76, respectively, to move on to WPIALs.
The target score was 83.
Seneca Valley 188, Butler 196 — At Cranberry Highlands, the Raiders (12-2, 10-2) tied North Allegheny for the WPIAL Section 3-3A title with this victory over the Golden Tornado.
SV was led by Bradley Steiner (35), Trent Gordon (36), Josh Marquardt (37) and Lucas Barber (38).
Butler (11-5, 5-5) received solid rounds from Karsten Lenyk (36), Levi McClellan (37) and Eli Snyder (40).
Mars and Shaler fought to a scoreless tie, the fourth stalemate of the season for the Planets (3-1-4, 2-1-1).
Slippery Rock 1, Hickory 0 — Eli Flowers scored the game-winning goal for the Rockets (5-3) in the second half off an assist from Wade Freehling. Parker Wilhide was credited with the shutout in goal.
Slippery Rock dropped both meets against Hickory, the girls falling 25-30 to the Hornets and the boys 15-49.
The Rockets’ Sophia Gearhart (21:25) and Lydia Springirth (21:48) placed second and third, respectively, for the girls.
Levi Pankratz placed seventh (20:19) to pace Slippery Rock’s boys.
