FREEDOM — The parents of two dozen Pennsylvania high school students aren't happy their children are facing more than $300 in fines after decorating their school with balloons and confetti for senior prank.

Twenty-four Freedom Area Senior High School seniors received trespassing citations after the school's main hallway was festooned with balloons and lockers were topped with confetti.

One parent said the school should have ordered the youths to clean up the mess, not call police. Some parents say they're considering fighting the charges.

School officials say they found the door the students used had been locked, so the charges could have been more severe.

ERIE — Officials at Presque Isle State Park in Erie are using faster tests for elevated levels of E. coli bacteria in the water.Normal testing for E. coli takes 24 hours, because the bacteria must be grown in a water sample taken to a laboratory.But a report Wednesday says a new system in place this year relies on a computer program to determine if weather and other conditions are right for the bacteria to grow. If that happens, a Mercyhurst University biologist tests DNA in any bacteria cells in the water and results are usually available before beaches open at 11 a.m. each day.The faster tests can be used to post swimming advisories.
