I think the reason the stores are moving around it that their leases are up in the current location and the owner raised the rent to high for that business. I know of at least one at Clearview whose lease was up several years ago and the rent was to be almost doubled. That business left the mall and the space has been vacant since. As for McDonalds, I would suspect the same has happened there - they did not own the land or the building and the new lease price was too high. Not the businesses fault, they are there to make money and someone offered them a lower lease. Apparently, who ever owns the property has no problem with leaving them empty or they wouldn't raise the lease costs so high. As for "green space", none of these properties were "green space" to begin with. They are privately owned parcels and the owners can do with as they please. "Green space" is public land or land set aside for no development - usually owned by "we the people" or the government.
