Butler golf’s Levi McClellan, Eli Snyder make WPIAL 3A championships: Roundup
Butler’s Levi McClellan opened WPIAL postseason play Monday with a 1-under 71 in the WPIAL Class 3A Section 7 Boys Golf Individual Qualifier at Pittsburgh North Golf Club.
He’ll be joined by teammate Eli Snyder in the WPIAL Class 3A Individual Boys Golf Championship, with the first round set for Sept. 28 at Hannastown Golf Club. Snyder carded a 77, one stroke under the qualifying score. Karsten Lenyk just missed by two strokes with an 80.
Freeport 199, St. Joseph’s 226 — Max Zigo and Brody Vogel each shot 38 at River Forest Country Club. Jackson Kane added a 39 for the Yellowjackets (13-2, 10-2 section).
DuBois battered goalie Brock Dittman all night, but he saved 22 of 24 shots in Karns City’s 2-0 loss.
Maggie Conger fired two goals and dished out assists for two more as Freeport blanked Oakland Catholic 6-0. Cecelia Schlegel had two goals and an assist, and Sophia Crawford recorded the shutout in goal. Ella McConville and Marcy Mattivi also scored.
Shaler 2, Mars 1 — Katie Blake scored the Planets’ only goal on an assist from Jade Breese.
DuBois 10, Karns City 0 — The Gremlins fell to 4-4 this season.
Freeport swept Butler 3-0 (set scores: 25-10, 25-14, 25-18). Emily Boylan led the Yellowjackets with 13 kills, while Evie Tola had 10 and Jamie Radvan had seven. Macy Stivenson had 18 digs and six aces, and Caylee Zembruski dished out 37 assists to go with two kills. Raina Lewandowski led the Tornado with 11 digs, six kills and an ace, and Eva Stutz had 15 digs. No stats were provided for the Yellowjackets.
Laurel 3, Moniteau 0 — Emily Matz led the Warriors’ effort with six kills, five digs and three aces, while Maddy Eury had 11 assists and six digs in a loss by set scores of 25-13, 25-23, 25-18.
Reynolds 3, A-C Valley 1 — Lexi Altman had 17 aces, five aces and four digs in A-C Valley’s loss by set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23. Sarah Bashline had 12 digs.
