SAEGERTOWN — State wildlife officials said they have found the owner of a wallaby captured in northwestern Pennsylvania.

The animal resembling a small kangaroo was found recently in Crawford Springs. It’s native to Australia, and Pennsylvania requires a license to keep the exotic animal.

The state Game Commission reported Friday that tips led it to identify Corry Lewis of North East as the wallaby’s owner.

Lewis has been charged with one count of unlawful importation of wildlife and one count of unlawful possession of wildlife.

The 25-pound animal has been kept at a wildlife facility since its capture May 30.
