PHILADELPHIA — A former Pennsylvania state senator convicted on fraud charges reported today to federal prison in Kentucky.

Vincent Fumo faces 4 1/2 years in prison for defrauding the Senate and two nonprofits of several million dollars.

A Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman says Fumo arrived this morning at the low-security prison in Ashland, Ky. Ashland is about 400 miles from his home in Philadelphia.

The 66-year-old Fumo was a wealthy Democratic power broker during a 30-year state Senate career.

In July, he was sentenced to 55 months in prison. The sentence is well under the guideline range of about 10 to 12 years.

Co-defendant Ruth Arnao, a longtime Fumo aide, is also set to start a one-year prison term today.
