Man accused in theft of woman's vehicle

Six months after taking a Butler woman's pickup supposedly to drive to a job interview, police have charged an Armstrong County man with failing to return the vehicle.

Joshua S. Colwell, 30, of Ford City, is wanted on felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property. District Judge William Fullerton issued an arrest warrant for him Friday.

Colwell is accused of using the woman's 2005 Chevrolet Silverado on July 24, 2020, for the job interview, but then he refused to return it, according to court documents.

The victim told police that she contacted Colwell in October and again asked him to return the truck, but he again refused. Police noted that as of Jan. 28, Colwell had not returned the pickup, documents said, and he has “refused any communication with (the victim).”

Court records show that a bench warrant was issued for the Colwell on Dec. 1 in connection with a misdemeanor drug case in Armstrong County.

Colwell's criminal history also indicated that he has three prior felony convictions for theft and two misdemeanor convictions for unauthorized use of a vehicle.
