Ed, you are obviously a teacher or a spouse of one. I did ask that question, but you never replied. Obviously, you don't have to answer that. Anyhow, I believe as well as many others that there are more important positions than teaching. You believe education is the most important in the world. Difference of opinions. The only people I have ever encountered that disagreed that education is not the most important profession were teachers and their spouses. Monetary gain? Maybe, maybe not. Like I said in previous posts I come from a long line of teachers. I've met some VERY arrogant ones and some who are not. (Like any profession) I for one am sick of them saying they are better than the people who pay their salaries. I think education is important, but not the MOST important thing in this world. I don't think taxpayers/teachers will ever see eye to eye on this subject. We all work hard to pay our bills and taxes and keep our heads above water. We need to respect each other for that. I've been to several of the South Butler board meetings and I was sickened by the one last November (2008) when teachers were standing up and "screaming" at the board. I couldn't believe some of the things they said. They slapped the taxpayers in the face that night and could not have cared less. Respect works both ways. We need to respect the profession of teaching and they need to respect our professions as well. God help South Butler. Our community has been torn apart by the teachers strikes. I have a child in that district and I am a graduate of this district. Again, money doesn't always bring the best teachers. If I believed that for one second I would be more willing to fight for our teachers. Quite honestly I would love to support them, but after what I witnessed at several monthly board meeting I can't.
