If people get too rowdy in Pittsburgh during the G-20 summit next week, the Butler County Prison will be a backup site for authorities to bring those arrested during the event.

Warden Rich Gigliotti said in an interview federal marshals earlier this month requested the possible use of the county's prison for inmate overflow.

"It's just a contingency plan in this case," he said.

While nothing is confirmed, federal marshals have already inspected the South Washington Street building to ensure it would meet their needs.

The marshals are working with Allegheny County and Pittsburgh authorities in policing the international conference.

If Allegheny County Prison would run out of room, other facilities would be needed to house any remaining inmates.

Gigliotti said the prison could safely house 50 arrestees brought up from Pittsburgh.

As of Thursday, there were 280 inmates in the Butler prison.
