PITTSBURGH — A Western Pennsylvania mother was arrested for a shoplifting spree and for forcing her teenage daughter to help.

Authorities say 36-year-old Kate Spiker of Pittsburgh was arrested Sunday afternoon outside a Pittsburgh-area mall. She allegedly stole close to $5,000 in merchandise, including high-end purses, making several trips in and out of stores.

Police said Spiker forced her 14-year-old daughter to drive a rented getaway vehicle.

Spiker is facing three felony theft charges and one misdemeanor charge of corruption of minors.

She was unable to post $25,000 bond and was being held at the Allegheny County Jail.
