An addition to a Seven Fields intersection aims to improve traffic safety.

A three-way stop sign was placed at the intersection of Highpointe, Sycamore and Enclave drives.

Tom Smith, borough manager, said the council took action after a study by a traffic engineer identified the line of sight around the bend on Highpointe Drive as a safety hazard. The Northern Regional Police Department agreed with the finding, Smith said.

He said while there have not been any notable accidents at the intersection yet, the stop sign is meant to prevent any incidents in the future.

Borough council approved the move at its meeting Monday, Sept. 14.

He said the action was not taken as part of the borough’s ongoing efforts toward a “traffic calming program.”

“PennDOT does not allow stop signs to be used that way,” he said.

What was part of the program was the installation of delineators along Mars-Crider Road on Thursday, Sept. 17. Road delineators are devices that manage traffic flow by marking travel paths.
