Butler Memorial Hospital’s Food Institute receives $200K grant for fighting food insecurity
The BMH Foundation, the charitable arm of Independence Health System Butler Memorial Hospital, received a $200,000 grant from the Hillman Foundation to support its Food Institute over the next two years.
According to a Thursday, Sept. 17, news release, the funding will be used to support food shares, staffing and nutrition education.
The BMH Food Institute was founded in 2021 to address food insecurity through access to healthy options, nutrition education and connections to community resources. Eligible participants receive monthly food shares and individualized nutrition education over a four-month period.
Since launch, the institute has served more than 2,000 participants and provided 6,000 hours of nutrition education and coaching.
