SLIPPERY ROCK — With the year coming to a close, borough officials considered whether purchasing a new police cruiser this year would be a feasible option instead of incorporating it into the borough’s 2027 budget.

Borough manager Christian Laskey explained what the borough’s police department is looking for and how the borough can afford to purchase a new vehicle now if it chooses to at the Tuesday, Sept. 15, borough council meeting. No action was taken.

“I don’t have an official quote yet because the quote I have is still from last year. I want to get something down to the penny,” Laskey explained.

He said the cruiser could be budgeted for 2027 or the borough could trade-in equipment it is already looking to get rid of alongside using a portion of the Main Street lot sale proceeds to purchase it in 2026.

“There’s two options right now. I know we’ve been trying to get away from Ford. There’s some nonhybrid Ford Explorer Interceptors that are leftovers from 2025. I don’t know what type of deals we can get on those yet. The chief would prefer to switch to Dodge,” Laskey said.

Laskey said more options would be presented at the next borough council meeting scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.
