History buffs and people interested in acting are invited to take a closer look at the friendship between President Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant during a program at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Butler Area public Library, 218 North McKean Street.

The presentation will be given by Gunnery Sgt. Kenneth J. Serfass, a Marine, teacher, reenactor and first-person impressionist who has spent 52 years studying Grant. Through his portrayal, Serfass will offer attendees a rare glimpse into the relationship between Lincoln and the general.

According to a program description from the library, Lincoln placed his faith in Grant at a time when few others did. During the Vicksburg Campaign, calls were made for Lincoln to dismiss Grant after the general became bogged down in Mississippi.
