It was a very disappointing week for the ol' Scoopster.

A 7-5 record just won't cut it. Neither will a 10-6 overall mark through two weeks.

Like many local teams, I'll be looking for a bounce-back performance this weekend.

On to the picks:

Butler 18, Altoona 16 — It was a rough Week 1 for the Tornado boys. But Week 2 brings the promise of a new day.

And a big Butler win.

Pine-Richland 35, Seneca Valley 21 — It was the Jack Cook show last week for the Raiders.

Cook threw four touchdown passes and also ran for two more as Seneca Valley rolled.

This week, the test is much stiffer against the Rams.

West Mifflin 26, Knoch 14 — It was a crazy opening game for the Knights in a maddening one-point loss. This week Knoch travels to West Mifflin — not an easy task.

Mars 26, Blackhawk 13 — Like yours truly, the Planets are looking to get the taste of a bad week out of their beaks.

Mars will behind Isaiah Johnson and Garrett Reinke.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 42, Mohawk 14 — Speaking of bad starts, the Trojans had a pretty rough one against Neshannock.

But North Catholic is never down for long and the Trojans will reassert themselves as a dominant force again.

Freeport 22, Deer Lakes 19 — The Yellowjackets open up their new stadium against a team that closed their old one (for the regular season, that is).

Last year's game was dramatic with Freeport winning on a blocked field goal. This year's game should also be a classic.

Karns City 34, Redbank Valley 16 — The Gremlins are throwing the ball more than they ever have under Ed Conto.

That makes KC even more difficult to contain — even against a good team on the road.

Punxsutawney 25, Moniteau 21 — The Chucks routed the Warriors in the season opener last year. But that was a long time ago.

Moniteau has some dangerous offensive weapons. Still, a trip to Punxsy is never easy.

Union/A-C Valley 33, Keystone 11 — Watch out for the Lucas Bowser to Gavin Hawk combination this year for the Falcon Knights.

Hickory 35, Slippery Rock 12 — This has been a marque matchup the last few seasons.

The Rockets, though, are in transition and Hickory has a fast Carr — Chuck Carr.

Conneaut Area 25, Grove City 24 — The Eagles — the ones from Grove City — are the feel-good story so far this season.

The Eagles — the ones from Grove City — come into this game against the Eagles — the ones from Conneaut Area — 2-0.

But Conneaut is a tough, tough place to play.

Rochester 30, Summit Academy 20 — The Knights keep it close, but fall to 0-2.
