Pa. Legislature sends $27.8B budget to Rendell
HARRISBURG — A $27.8 billion spending bill is on its way to the desk of Gov. Ed Rendell after a 101-day stalemate.
The state Senate voted 42-7 to approve the bill Friday, after signing off on a companion bill to tap more than $1.5 billion from the state's reserves.
Gov. Ed Rendell has said he would sign the bill, although it's unclear whether he would sign it before the House passes the pending companion bill.
The appropriations bill cuts spending by more than 1 percent.
Pennsylvania's budget stalemate is the longest in the nation this year.
