Man sentenced to prison in unlawful contact case

A former band volunteer in the Moniteau School District will spend time in prison for unlawful contact with a boy he met on the Internet.

Cody Michael Klingler, 21, was sentenced this morning in Butler County Court to serve 11½ to 23 months in prison followed by 97 months of probation.

According to court records, Klingler had sex with a boy at his home on Route 38 in Washington Township, beginning in February 2009 when the boy was 14.

Klingler, who reportedly met the boy on MySpace, allegedly confessed that he had sex with the boy on three occasions, according to court documents.

Police say the defendant also admitted he illegally accessed the boy's e-mail account to send the teen's mother e-mails that referred to her son's sexual orientation.

Police launched their investigation after Moniteau's then-superintendent Trudy Peterman forwarded them two anonymous letters, purportedly from concerned parents, that had been mailed to the district.

Klingler in April pleaded guilty to one felony count of unlawful contact with a minor.
