Historic Harmony gets grant, challenge

HARMONY — Historic Harmony, the nonprofit society that operates the nine-site Harmony Museum, has been challenged by an anonymous supporter to match a $10,000 grant focused on capital improvements.

“The grant and matching gifts will support improvements such as partial floor covering replacement in the museum’s multipurpose Stewart Hall and installation of pads to protect the hall roof from falling-ice punctures. The work will be completed in the next month or so,” said John Ruch, the group’s president.

“Also, several windows in the main museum building and adjacent Wagner House require rehabilitation.”

Donations received through Nov. 30 will count toward the match challenge.

They can be sent to: Historic Harmony, P.O. Box 524, Harmony, PA 16037, or made online at harmonymuseum.org.

Ruch noted that donations had passed the campaign’s one-third point on Oct. 31, “but that means we have two-thirds to go in just four weeks.”

Because it receives no local, county, state or federal operating support, Historic Harmony must raise all of its funds through memberships, admissions, events and contributions,

Ruch said the organization’s budget for this year is $140,700.
