BMH/Local Jobs
Regarding the recent letters to the editor questioning Butler Memorial Hospital's support of local jobs. A few facts:
BMH employs 2000 people. The vast majority live in Butler County and pay taxes here. The hospital emplys 3 times the number of people it did just 20 years ago.
The hospital has a labor agreement with local trades. Over 1000 local union tradesmen have worked on the hospital tower project in the past 2 years.
BMH does not outsource its billing. It had to change banks as a part of its bond sale. Some payments are sent to that bank, located in Baltimore.
The landcaper BMH contracts with is a local company. BMH does not control who this local company employs.
My wife has been a nurse at BMH for more than 20 years. She asked for this information and was given straight answers by hospital management. Butler County should be so lucky as to have more employers who support the local economy and workers to the extent the hospital does.
