High, gusting winds bring down utility lines

With high winds throughout today, emergency responders were called to more than 10 reports of downed utility wires.

According to Butler County 911 records, wires were reported down in several communities in the southern part of the county including Cranberry, Middlesex, Forward and Buffalo townships. There also were calls in Butler, Concord and Summit townships.

The calls came in from 11:30 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.

According to First Energy Corp’s website, 100 to 500 Penn Power customers in Bruin and 100 to 500 customers in Cranberry were without electricity today.

Service was expected to be restored to most customers by 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service reported winds in Butler gusting at 32 mph today, and it forecast strong winds to continue into tonight.
