Misdemeanor charges leveled at alleged 'peep'

CRANBERRY TWP — A 31-year-old man is accused of sneaking into a Sheetz women's bathroom and trying to peep at a woman using the facilities.

Township Police charged Ryan E. Gillman of Cranberry Township with misdemeanor invasion of privacy, misdemeanor criminal attempt to invade privacy and a summary harassment.

Gillman has not been arrested because he has not been charged with any felony, but he is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. March 5 for a preliminary hearing before District Judge David Kovach.

According to charging documents, police were dispatched at 1:23 a.m. Jan. 7 to Sheetz, 1329 Freedom Road, for a man in the women's bathroom.

Police said Gillman was not there when they arrived, but they interviewed the victim, who was still at the store with her boyfriend.

According to the victim's account in the complaint, a man caught her attention when he walked past her twice.

“Each time, Gillman was staring at her and made her feel uncomfortable,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.

The documents said the victim went to the bathroom a short time later with her boyfriend waiting outside the women's restroom.

“The victim stated she felt like someone was in the bathroom with her, so she looked under the bathroom stall partition,” the affidavit said. “She observed the same male, Gillman, on his stomach staring at her.”

According to the documents, the victim ran from the restroom screaming. She later described the man as wearing a dark jacket, dark pants and a Green Bay Packers beanie.

Police said they used Sheetz security camera footage to match the description to a customer who later entered a vehicle registered to Gillman.

Police said the footage also showed Gillman, dressed in the described attire, enter the women's restroom twice, including once just before the victim entered.

The investigating officer said Gillman “admitted to being in the women's restroom at Sheetz.”
