The Monroe Street Bridge, renamed Lookout Point Bridge, will reopen to all traffic Thursday, weeks before the expected November completion date.

"The contractor worked very hard, and the final guardrail will be placed (Thursday)," said John Evans, Butler's zoning officer and engineering coordinator.

"We're shooting for a 1 p.m. opening, but it all depends on when the contractor finishes. I'm thinking it will be done a bit before that."

South Monroe Street has been closed since Jan. 26, and the time allowed the city streets department to pave the southern part of Monroe Street, as well as make repairs to the what Evans called the "other" Monroe Street Bridge: a small span over the Connoquenessing Creek, located about 300 feet north of the Lookout Point Bridge.

Deteriorated concrete was removed from the second bridge and the holes were patched by the city streets department.

Also, that bridge got a new coat of paint from county prisoners whose sentences included community service.
