Cass

Cass, The only thing that upsets me is the fact that our teachers can walk out on us (taxpayer) and our children. I am tired of people accusing me of "bashing" teachers just because I don't believe they should be legally allowed to strike. I have no problem with their work hours, pay, or benefits. They deserve to have a good job. They SHOULD have to pay more for their benefits, but in the same token so should our congressmen(women). (A point previously made) The day of "free" health care should be ended for ALL taxpayer based employees. As a government worker I pay 1.5% of my gross each paycheck. It's still minimal compared to what I paid in private industry, but MUCH more than our teachers ($10 a month).

I don't always think people feel private industry is making less money than school teachers, but SOME teachers think they should make more than any other profession. I just don't understand that line of thinking. Again, NOT all teachers think that way, but I sure am tired of hearing the ones that do think that way say it. Two years my child has been affected by a strike and they are talking about striking again next school year. School isn't done until June 25th this year. Our teachers will be there until July 2 (in-service) if they don't take vacation/personal/sick days. It's not fair to our children. I only wish I had all the answers!
