Batty

Bertha Risch Batty, 85, of Butler County died Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 14, 1922, in Renfrew, she was the daughter of William B. and Minty Rape Risch.

She was a 54-year resident of Warrendale, where she retired as a clerk at the post office.

Mrs. Batty was an avid quilter and had made more than 150 quilts that were used as gifts for children, Christmas and housewarmings. She also made a quilt for each pastor and family at the Community Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Warrendale, where she was active teaching Sunday school and serving as secretary and treasurer. She also played the organ and piano at various times for the church.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband to each of the states, including Alaska, and two islands. She enjoyed camping and flowers and had a greenhouse that was home to more than 100 orchids.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert P. Batty; a son, Edward Paul Batty and his wife, Jean, of Cranberry Township; two daughters, Alice Grace Ketterer and her husband, Walter, of New Sewickley Township, Beaver County, and Donna E. Parker and her husband, Russell, of Summit Township, and a sister, Mary Lefever of Butler. Also surviving are six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Herbert, and two brothers-in-law.
