Demolition of downtown Butler building begins

Demolition work begins on a building off of the City of Butler's Main Street, Thursday, Sept. 10. Matthew Brown/Butler Eagle
City plans to transfer lot to land bank

After some delay, demolition of the building formerly located at 123 S. Main St., began Thursday, Sept. 10 and continued Friday.

Mayor Bob Dandoy previously said the demolition was due to atmospheric and safety concerns. The property’s former owner, Chris Gatto, was issued a court order to transfer the property to the city.

City council approved the demolition in July at a cost of $102,855.

Dandoy previously said once the building is demolished and cleaned up, it will eventually be transferred to the city’s land bank. From there, it will be the land bank board’s responsibility to determine what’s next for the property.
