Karns City boys soccer blanks Central Clarion; Knoch volleyball rolls: Highlights & scores

Garrett Fleming, Logan Rumbaugh and Trevor Rumbaugh each scored a goal in Karns City’s 3-0 boys soccer victory over Central Clarion on Thursday.

Fleming, a sophomore, tallied his first-ever varsity goal. Ethan McElravy and Josh Peters both contributed an assist.

Brock Dittman made eight saves to earn his third shutout of the season.

Mars 2, Penn Hills 1 — The Planets (2-0-3, 1-0) opened section play with Jackson Zirnsak and Abram Knezovich both finding the net.

Freeport 3, Highlands 0 — The Yellowjackets received goals from Liam Dunn, Carson Rowley and Cam Smith.

Easton Smith chipped in two assists and Judah Thompson earned the clean sheet in net.

North Catholic 1, Hopewell 0 — Shane Schollaert scored the goal on an assist from Ryan Mueser.

Logan Mueser earned another shutout behind a defense anchored by Jackson Schlegel, Zach Cingolani, Mark Better III and Andrew Spalvieri.

Girls volleyball

Emily Matz continued her superb senior season with 10 aces and seven kills as Moniteau dominated Forest Area by scores of 25-6, 25-8 and 25-8.

Sayge Brunst added five kills and a pair of aces, Danilynn Wallace three kills and four aces, Maddy Eury a team-leading 11 assists and four kills.

Knoch 3, Lincoln Park 0 — The Knights rolled to a 25-7, 25-6, 25-12 triumph.

Maelan Bajuszik had seven kills, eight aces and 14 assists for Knoch (2-2, 2-0). Emma Rivers added eight kills.

Seneca Valley 3, Hempfield 0 — No other details were available from this non-section win for the Raiders.

Freeport 3, Neighborhood Academy 0 — The Yellowjackets dominated play at the net, with four players combining for 36 kills — Emily Boylan (12) and eight apiece from Lauren Hellgren, Brynleigh Paga and Lucy Majersky.

Caylee Zembrzuski dished out 34 assists in the 25-15, 25-13, 25-12 victory.

Slippery Rock 3, Conneaut 0 — The Rockets swept the Eagles by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21.

Lexi Caldwell led the offense with 31 assists and added 15 digs. Savannah Smith and Gia Kovacik both had six kills and Kovacik posted 14 digs.

Keystone 3, A-C Valley 0 — The Falcons were swept by scores of 28-26, 25-16 and 25-15.

Sarah Bashline tallied 10 digs, Gianna Louise four kills and Lexi Altman five assists in defeat.

Boys golf

Jackson Geiger fired a 34 at Slippery Rock Golf Club, leading Mars to a 191-197 victory over Butler.

Finn McKenzie and Landon Mitro both added a 39 for the Planets (9-3, 4-2).

Butler (9-3, 5-3) received a 37 from Eli Snyder, a 38 from Levi McClellan and a 40 courtesy of Drew Cuny.

North Allegheny 182, Seneca Valley 186 — Despite fielding five golfers with sub-40 scores, the Raiders fell to the Tigers at Cranberry Highlands.

Scoring for SV were Josh Marquardt (35), Lucas Barber (36), Jacob Wallace (38), Will Pefferman (38) and Trent Gordon (39).

NA got 34s from Roman Habib and Jake Hendrick.

Freeport 197, Hampton 207 — The Yellowjackets improved to 10-2 with this win at Buffalo Golf Course.

Gavin Tola (37), Max Zigo (38) and Jackson Kane (40) led the way.

Girls soccer

Katelyn VanDyke scored four times and added two assists in Karns City’s 10-0 win over Central Clarion.

Bree O'Donnell had two goals and two assists. Peyton Claypool had the shutout in net.

Girls tennis

Butler won just two service games in a 5-0 loss to North Allegheny.
