The Rev. Harvey Norman Ketzel, 89, of Grove City, formerly of Slippery Rock, New Castle and Prospect, died at 7:01 a.m. Tuesday at the Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City, after a brief illness.

Born in New Castle, April 24, 1918, he was the son of Charles White Ketzel and Martha Stickle.

A retired Baptist minister, he served in the Prospect and New Castle areas for more than 50 years. He also was a school teacher and taught at the Shenango schools in New Castle, under the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, where he taught children with learning disabilities. He retired in 1979.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and was stationed in Germany.

The center of all his activities revolved around serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Mae Lytle Ketzel, whom he married May 12, 1937; two sons and their spouses, Lee and Doris Ketzel of Grove City and Stewart and Denise Ketzel of Slippery Rock; a daughter and her husband, Lynn D. and Thomas Fleeger of Burleson, Texas; and a brother, Glenn Ketzel of New Castle. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Randall Ketzel; two brothers, Gareth and Phillip; and two sisters, Betty Karki and Phyrn Baker.

Harvey Norman Ketzel, who died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Unity Baptist Cemetery, Harlansburg.
