Butler girls soccer, North Catholic boys win in shutouts; Moniteau volleyball sweeps Brockway: Highlights & scores
Lucia Leyland scored one goal, and it was all Butler girls soccer needed Wednesday night in a 1-0 win over North Hills.
Avery Singer provided the assist for Leyland in the home game.
Jake Olkowski scored the game’s only goal to lead North Catholic to a 1-0 win at Armstrong. Logan Mueser pitched a shutout in goal.
Emily Matz knocked down 11 kills and added 15 digs and five blocks in Moniteau’s 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-18, 25-13) of Brockway at home. Matz also had three aces. Sayge Brunst chipped in 17 digs and eight kills, while Maddy Eury dished out 28 assists and had 11 digs in the win.
Max Zigo and Gavin Tola shot rounds of 35 and 36, respectively, to lead Freeport to a 186-226 rout of Knoch at Buffalo Golf Course. All five Yellowjackets (9-2, 7-2 section) who scored shot a 3-over or better on the par-36 back nine. Brendan Fiore led the Knights with a 41.
KSAC mega match — Joe Rapp finished one stroke shy of winning a match for the second day in a row. His 35 at Foxburg Country Club led A-C Valley/Union to a third-place finish with a cumulative 168 behind Keystone (160). Moniteau finished third (170), led by Isaac Book’s 38 that tied for third. Liam Hobaugh shot a 42, good for ninth, to lead Karns City (sixth).
Mars 191, North Allegheny 200 — Jackson Geiger carded a 36, leading a pack that saw four Planets shoot under 40. Landon Mitro shot a 37, and Finn McKenzie and Casey Klinefelter each had 38.
Lilly Bauer led Butler with 51 at Hiland Golf Course, but the Tornado (0-8, 0-8 section) dropped a WPIAL section match to North Allegheny 164-218. Eliza Lozosky carded a 54 as well.
North Catholic 174, Shady Side Academy 187 — Riley Kontul shot a 39 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course to lead the Trojanettes to victory. Brea Kelley finished second in the field with a 42.
