Response to Judy Barton
I agree with you so much. I am raising a teenager and I have moved 4 times in the last 10 years in an attempt to maintain an affordable apartment and have decent surroundings. Landlords are so money hungry it is pathetic. Moving is the only way I can eliminate the problem. Sometimes I have had to borrow money to move. I can honestly say I would never rent from relatives, that is more unstable than regular landlords. I might suggest you check the apartment complexes that cater to 55 years old and over, when you fit that desciption. Sometimes the apartment manager offers subsized housing and it could help you especially if an electric bill is paid by the tenant. Subsidized housing in apartment complexes is sometimes a separate issue from HUD. Yes it is all government, but there are different programs. You may want to actually call the HUD office and inquire about options. I wish you the best of luck; I know exactly how you feel.
