WESTON, Conn. — Authorities searching for a Connecticut couple found the remains of two people, and a federal prosecutor said Friday their 27-year-old son is a suspect in their presumed killings.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Dayton said there is evidence, including the discovery of the remains, that “very strongly suggests” Kyle Navin killed his parents. Her comments came during a hearing in federal court in Bridgeport in a weapon case against Navin, who has not been charged in connection with his parents’ disappearance.

Navin’s lawyer, Eugene Riccio, declined to comment Friday on Dayton’s statements, the discovery of the remains or the gun charge.

Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin of Easton haven’t been seen since Aug. 4. Their pickup truck was found with a shattered window on Aug. 9 in a commuter parking lot in Westport. Jeffrey Navin, 56, is president of J&J Refuse in Westport. Jeannette Navin, 55, is a school library aide in Weston.

Authorities previously disclosed text messages in which Jeffrey Navin asked his son if he hurt his mother, and in which Jeffrey Navin expressed concern he was being framed for his wife’s murder. The texts were sent the day the Navins vanished.
