A three-story house at 503 N. Monroe St. was damaged by a fire late this morning that city fire Chief Nick Ban suspects was started in the attic by a 5-year-old reportedly playing with a lighter.

Ban estimated the damages at $20,000. Five residents of the house were unhurt and outside when firefighters got to the scene.

Ban said the residents do not have renters insurance. The American Red Cross in Butler is assisting the family.
