Firefighters respond to heating malfunction at Country Kitchen

PENN TWP — A malfunctioning roof-mounted heating system interrupted breakfast this morning at a stop for hungry commuters

An employee at Country Kitchen called 911 shortly before 6 a.m. after turning on the furnace and noticing smoke coming from the restaurant on Route 8.

Township and South Butler volunteer firefighters got there and discovered two wires had shorted out in the heating system.

Ray Glace, an assistant chief for the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department, said the problem was quickly solved after firefighters got on the roof and disconnected the trouble wires inside the heating system's access panel

Only a small amount of smoke made it inside the building, and no damage was reported. No injuries were reported, and firefighters were on the scene for about 45 minutes.

Repeated telephone calls to the restaurant went unanswered through 8:45 a.m.
