National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issues severe thunderstorm warning
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a severe thunderstorm warning effective until at least 6 p.m. for southern Butler, Beaver, northwestern Allegheny and northwestern Washington counties; as well as for portions of Ohio and West Virginia.
Severe thunderstorms were located west of Butler heading southwest at 20 mph. The weather service warns these are considered “destructive storms” for some areas.
Wind gusts of up to 80 mph and quarter-size hail are possible. The weather service warns flying debris may be dangerous to those without shelter and mobile homes, windows, vehicles and roofs could be damaged. Power outages could occur.
The NWS recommends seeking shelter inside an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built structure.
